SSC One-Time Registration (OTR) — Why Your Old ssc.nic.in Account No Longer Works

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) · Post Date:

Short Information

Every SSC application now starts with a One-Time Registration on ssc.gov.in, and an OTR created on the older ssc.nic.in site does not carry over — it has to be generated again. Once made on the new portal, the same OTR works for every SSC examination you apply to. This page collects the OTR rules that appear across the 2026 notices, including the Aadhaar option that protects your form from being rejected over a photograph.

Eligibility

  • An OTR generated on the old ssc.nic.in website will not work on the new one. This is stated in the SSC CPO, JE and CHSL notices for 2026 alike.
  • Once created on ssc.gov.in, the OTR stays valid for all examinations you apply for through that portal.
  • Candidates are advised to opt for Aadhaar-based authentication while completing OTR.
  • Applications submitted through Aadhaar-based authentication are not rejected on the grounds that the photograph or signature does not meet the prescribed standards — a common reason forms are thrown out.
  • Candidates who use Aadhaar authentication are also not required to produce recent colour photographs and original photo identity proof for admission to the examination venue.
  • A person acting as a scribe for a PwBD candidate must also complete their own OTR and Aadhaar authentication on the Commission's website.

How to Apply

  1. Go to ssc.gov.in and open the One-Time Registration section. Do not reuse credentials from ssc.nic.in — they will not work.
  2. Complete the registration with an active mobile number and a personal email address you will keep access to for the whole recruitment cycle.
  3. Choose Aadhaar-based authentication when prompted. It is optional, but it removes the most common cause of rejection.
  4. The application module captures a live photograph through your camera — you cannot upload an old photo. Find good light, plain background, camera at eye level, no cap, mask or spectacles.
  5. Keep a signature image ready as a JPEG of 10 to 20 KB, about 6.0 cm wide by 2.0 cm high.
  6. Once the OTR exists, applying to any SSC examination means logging in and filling only the exam-specific form.

Frequently Asked Questions

I registered on SSC years ago. Do I need to register again?

If that registration was on the old ssc.nic.in website, yes. The 2026 notices state plainly that an OTR generated on the old website will not be functional on the new one and must be created again on ssc.gov.in.

Do I have to create a new OTR for each exam?

No. Once an OTR exists on ssc.gov.in it remains valid for every examination you apply for through that portal. You then fill only the exam-specific application.

Is Aadhaar authentication compulsory?

No, but it is worth doing. Applications submitted through Aadhaar-based authentication cannot be rejected for a photograph or signature that fails the prescribed standards, and those candidates are not required to carry recent colour photographs and original photo ID to the examination venue.

Why does the form not let me upload my photograph?

By design. The application module captures a real-time photograph through your camera to prevent the use of old or borrowed images. Uploading a photograph of a pre-existing photograph gets the application rejected outright.
