  • 30 test papers are offered, and a candidate may sit for one or a combination of two.
  • A qualifying GATE score is valid for three years.
  • Eligibility varies by degree type — engineering, architecture, science, commerce, arts and medical streams each have their own entry. Check your qualification against the eligibility table before paying.

How to Apply

  1. Open the GATE 2027 portal run by IIT Madras and register through GOAPS, the GATE online application processing system.
  2. Choose your test paper. If you are taking two, check the official two-paper combination table first — not every pair is allowed.
  3. Fill in your academic details and upload the documents in the formats the portal specifies.
  4. Choose your examination cities in order of preference.
  5. Pay the fee. Applying before 27 September avoids the late fee, which adds ₹500 for most candidates.
  6. Download and keep the filled application. The admit card follows on 4 January 2027.
